Breast implants :

Breast implants are used for enlarging a woman's breasts for cosmetic reasons, re-constructive purposes (such as to correct genetic deformities or after a mastectomy), or as part of male-to-female sex reassignment surgery. There are two main types of breast implants used: silicone-gel-filled and saline-filled. Silicone gel implants are made up of a silicone shell with viscous silicone gel fillings, while saline implants have silicone elastomer shells filled with sterile saline liquid. Some of other types of implants were developed like soy oil or polypropylene string but they are no longer manufactured these days.

So who's getting them?

Profiles for those looking to get breast implants show that they are usually younger and healthier, come from higher socio-economic classes, and are often married with children. Reasons for wanting to get implants usually fall along the lines of having to cope with great distress because of how they look. Getting teased about how they look is also a usual complaint.

What do you get out of the procedure exactly?

The foremost benefit of breast implants is that you'll look better. Since you look better, you're bound to feel better about yourself so post-operative surveys show that patients report improvements on various dimensions of their life, which include physical health and appearance, self-esteem, their social life, and sexual functions. Long-term follow-ups suggest, however, that these improvements may be transitory, except for better self-esteem stemming from sexual attractiveness. Even after having to go under the knife again to treat complications or for aesthetic reasons, most patients still report that they are satisfied about getting implants.
